Without knowing it, Philip Segal spent 22 years preparing himself for the intelligence field. He is
a former investigative reporter who worked in five different countries over a 19-year career as
a journalist, the last few as Finance Editor at the Asian Wall Street Journal. He then won a one-
year fellowship for journalists at Yale Law School and, fascinated by the law, completed his J.D.
at the Cardozo School of Law. The blend of skills this background gave him—a capacity for
chasing down facts, paired with knowledge of the law and finance —made for a good career as
a legal investigator.

After working as a case manager at a global intelligence group and as General Counsel to a
British intelligence firm, Philip founded Charles Griffin Intelligence in 2009. Here he services
major law firms, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals alongside others attorneys who
share his talents. Philip taught a course in Fact Investigation at Cardozo School of Law for three
years, and in 2012 was named one of the top 40 lawyers furthering legal education. He has also
taught continuing legal education courses on “The Fundamentals of Fact-Finding” and
“Matrimonial Asset Searches,” and is a frequent commentator on Bloomberg Television, Fox
News, and other media outlets. His firm maintains two blogs: The Ethical Investigator and The
Divorce Asset Hunter.
